I run for halting forest loss, one of the key drivers of climate change

I am running through some of our beautiful Dutch forests and with every step realise that all around the world, every second of the day, trees are cut down at an astonishing speed. Around 13 million hectares of forest are lost every year and more are degraded. In my work in the Congo Basin, I have seen the enormous impact deforestation has on peoples lives and on biodiversity. Deforestation and forest degradation are amongst the largest drivers of climate change. It concerns me deeply. The solution is clear as water: Keep our forests intact and standing. One of the best and cheapest solutions to fight dangerous climate change. I run through the forest to Paris urging our world leaders to stop deforestation. For the climate, for biodiversity, for people.
